Mahdism (53) | Mahdism in the Holy Quran - Final Part

The verses of the Quran sometimes have multiple meanings, where one meaning is apparent and general, and the other is an inner concept and, terminologically, the inner depth (batn) of the verse, of which no one is aware except the Prophet (pbuh and his family), the Imams (pbut), and those whom Allah wills.

Hawzah News Agency- Some of the verses related to Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) and his global revolution are as follows:

The Fourth Verse:

Every one has a direction to which he turns; therefore, refrain from futile disputes and hasten to do good deeds; wherever you are, Allah will bring you all together. Indeed Allah has power over all things.

(Baqarah 2, Verse 148)

In numerous narrations from the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), the phrase «أَینَ ما تَکُونُوا یأْتِ بِکُمُ اللّهُ جَمیعًا» (Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you all together) has been interpreted as the gathering of the companions and associates of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) at the time of his uprising.

Imam Baqir (pbuh) said regarding this verse:

It refers to the companions of al-Qa’im (Imam Mahdi), who are three hundred and some people. By Allah! They are the “numbered nation”. By Allah! They will gather all in a single hour, like autumn clouds that are gathered and condensed by a gale.

(Kafi, Vol. 8, p. 313)

Imam Ridha (pbuh) also says:

By Allah! When our Qa’im rises, Allah will gather our followers from all cities unto him.

(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 52, p. 291)

This interpretation is from the inner concepts of the verse; for according to narrations, the verses of the Quran sometimes have multiple meanings, where one meaning is apparent and general, and the other is an inner concept and, terminologically, the inner depth (batn) of the verse, of which no one is aware except the Prophet (pbuh and his family), the Imams (pbut), and those whom Allah wills.

From the perspective of these narrations, the God who has the power to gather the scattered particles of human dust on the Day of Resurrection from different parts of the world can easily gather the companions of Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) in one day and one hour to establish the global government of justice and to end oppression and tyranny.

The Fifth Verse:

What Allah leaves for you is better for you, if you are believers. And I am not a guardian over you.

(Hud 11, Verse 86)

In various narrations, “بَقِیتُ اللّهِ” (what Allah leaves for you) has been interpreted as the existence of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) or other Imams (pbut).

Imam Baqir (pbuh) said:

The first words that (Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his relief) speaks after his rising is this verse: «بَقِیتُ اللّهِ خَیرٌ لَکُمْ إِنْ کُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنینَ». Then he says: “I am the Baqiyatullah (what Allah left for you) on His earth.”

(Kamal al-Din wa Tamam al-Ni’mah, Vol. 1, p. 330)

Despite that in the very verse we are discussing on, the addressee is the nation of Prophet Shu’ayb (pbuh), and the meaning of “Baqiyatullah” is lawful profit or divine reward; Every beneficial being—that has been left by Allah for humanity and becomes a source of goodness and happiness—is considered “Baqiyatullah.” Based on this, all divine Prophets and great leaders are “Baqiyatullah.”

Since the Promised Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) is the final leader and the greatest leader after the prophethood of the Prophet of Islam (pbuh and his family), he is one of the clearest instances of “Baqiyatullah” and the most worthy individual for this title; especially since he is the only remainder after the Prophets and the Imams.

The Sixth Verse:

He is the One who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions, even though the polytheists may dislike it.

(Tawbah 9, Verse 33)

The noble verse appears with these same words in Surah “As-Saff” and is repeated with a slight difference in Surah “Al-Fath,” announcing an important event. This importance has caused its repetition, informing of the globalization of Islam and the pervasiveness of this faith on earth.

Some interpreters have taken the victory discussed in the verse to mean a regional and limited victory—which occurred for Muslims in the era of the Holy Prophet (pbuh and his family) or in later times—but given that there is no condition or restriction in the verse and it is absolute from every aspect, there is no reason to limit its meaning. Its concept is the comprehensive victory of Islam over all religions of the world; that is, eventually, Islam will encompass the entire globe and will prevail over the whole world.

There is no doubt that currently, this matter has not been realized, but this certain promise of Allah is gradually being fulfilled. According to narrations, the perfection of this plan will happen when Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his relief) rises and actualizes the plan for the globalization of Islam.

Sheikh Al-Saduq (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Imam Sadiq (pbuh) in the exegesis of this verse:

By Allah, its interpretation has not yet been actualized, and its interpretation will not be actualized until the Qa’im (may Allah the Almighty hasten his relief) rises. So when the Qa’im rises, there will remain no disbeliever in Allah, nor anyone who disbelieves in the Imam, except that he will detest his uprising; to the extent that even if a disbeliever or a polytheist were inside a rock, the rock would say: ‘O believer, there is a disbeliever inside me, so break me and kill him.’

(Kamal al-Din wa Tamam al-Ni’mah, Vol. 2, p. 670)

(Some Shia scholars have listed the number of verses related to “Mahdism” upto 120 verses, which can be found in detailed books on this subject; therefore, regarding the topic of Mahdism verses, we suffice with this amount.)
